Hi,
I'd be grateful if anyone can advice on how best to use Product Types and IT Assets/Non-IT Assets.
For example, printers. We have 50+ network printers and a network scan of these retrieves basic information such as trays, page counts and toner levels. We also have a number of non-network printers. If I create the non-network printers as 'printers' then I assume they use a device licence - is this correct? What do other folks do - purchase enough device licences for all of the printers?
Also, I'm not sure what benefits I get from using the network scan to discover routers, switches and other network devices. Again, these utilise a device licence, but 9/10 occasion I get no useful information about these devices. A few Cisco routers show their interfaces, but that's about it.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to configure SNMP to get more useful information?
Should I forget about scanning these switches. routers etc and just add them as non-it assets? If so, can I delete the default switch, router, access point Product Types?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
