Ability to configure Multiple states, thresholds and actions
Hi all,
First of all..
Probably I'm putting this in the wrong place but I couldn't find a clear place for feature requests.. Sorry for this in advance.. :)
OK.. I would like to suggest this.. ;)
I miss the ability to specify multiple alarmconditions depending on the state of the device. Especially when you try to monitor UPS's, Relative Humidity or temperatures it might be an incredibly nice feature if you would be able to use several more states than only Trouble, Attention and Critical.., which are (in my eyes ;)) not sufficient to cover all possible conditions then..
I'll try to write down what I mean and give it another try in colored text.. :D
While monitoring a UPS we all know values aren't stable.. and vary slighty (or not..), the variance is not always reason to start running around like a headless chicken.. Nevertheless, at some point the variance becomes more and more reason for stressfull behaviour.. ;).
In The Netherlands we're supposed to have 230V Utility Power.
We consider
Values ranging from 225V - 235V to be within allowable variance > State: OK
Values ranging from 220V - 224V and 236V - 240V > State: Minor
Values ranging from 215V - 219V and 241V - 245V > State: Major
Values ranging from <= 214V and >= 246V > State: Critical
In colored text:
Critical: >= 246V
Major: 241 - 245V
Minor: 236 - 240V
OK: 225 - 235V
Minor: 220 - 224V
Major: 215 - 219V
Critical: <= 214V
When using this method to specify the alert state of a certain condition you might be able to be more precise in which action is to be taken because of this alert state.
Since you've multiple states you can take state dependant actions, which obviously have to possible to be configured.. ;) {another feature request ;)}
Besides this it's giving you the chance to monitor values above and below a certain threshold and avoiding some unexpected results.. (resulting in less serious alerts decreasing the risk of missing early warning signs of an imminent failure). Only drawback I can think of right now is that during initial setup it will take a lot more time to configure OpManager, but I think you will and can have a gain in free time after finishing the configuration someday..
Anyone with additional comments and/or suggestions?
Hope to see this feature in a future release of OpManager.
Regards,
Guido
