A quick post/note about my experience with switching to the Linux version.
Originally we ran the NetFlow Analyzer software on a 64 bit Windows 2008 server (VM). As with most windows based software packages that deal with a lot of data and correlation it was good, but sluggish. Looking at the NetFlow Analyzer software on our Windows deployment I noticed that some pieces were Unix/Linux software packages that have been ported to Windows.
I decided to bring up a 64 bit Ubuntu VM (with the same hardware specs as the Windows VM) side by side with the Windows version and compare the two... Best decision ever. Instantly, I noticed a difference. It was night and day with the overall speed and response time. In fact it was so much faster that I thought it was too good to be true. Well now nearly a month later, the Windows VM has long since been removed and it's nothing more than a painful memory. And the Linux VM with NetFlow Analyzer is still amazingly fast.
I just wanted to share my experience and overall happiness with others who have thought about migrating. With our busy work days, the "if it's not broke don't fix it" attitude is worth throwing out. It has been so worth it, the speed, response and stability have made a world of difference. The documentation provided by ManageEngine was straight forward. The licensing was easy (I just used the same one from our Windows deployment). And once the Linux O/S is up and running it only took about 30 minutes to have the Linux version of NetFlow Analyzer up and running.
