#113419 - Heart beat monitor for OpManager

Any update? Will be very helpful to get this failover package that will support a Hot-standby or secondary server that will automatically take over in case of the primary server failure. Thanks!

Description

Is there a way to guard against a single point of failure with your software? For example if the server that i have loaded your product onto goes down, then I don't get any alerts for the servers that the product is supposed to be monitoring. Now, is it as simple as loading your software on another server and have that server just monitor your software (kind of like a heartbeat monitor on the monitoring software)? However your software license says that you can only load the software on a single server. so how do we protect agaisnt a single point of failure without doubling our software costs?

Resolution

To avoid a single point of failure we are coming up with a Failover package that will support a Hot-standby or secondary server that will automatically take over in case of the primary server failure. This will be available sometime during First Quarter of 2005. Currently, if you are looking to setup another OpManager installation for monitoring the primary setup, you can make use of OpManager Free Edition that is free for monitoring up to 10 devices. You can install the Free Edition using the same setup program that will prompt the user to choose between Free and Professional editions during the installation.
