Desktop Sharing shows wrong IP - how to force IP refresh?
When I connect to a computer it connects to a different machine. If I check the IP in DHCP it is different than in Desktop Sharing. How do I force update of IP addresses in Desktop Central
After agent install, some program do not work
Hi. I've installed desktop central on the Domain Controller, all work fine. I've insert a new client in the know desktop central client, all work fine. At the next reboot agent installation do fine, and in the client central console i view the client, all work fine. No more operation until the next reboot of the client. At the reboot, some application do not work. In particular: firewall ( Kerio winroute firewall ) antivirus ( Trend Micro Officescan ) Windows defender and in advance, every 5 minutes
Inventory/scan failure
I have just a single machine (out of 10) in which I get a scan failure when doing inventory. I've tried uninstalling the agent and reinstallling, but get the same results. I am using build 50010 and the application log on the client machine shows and app error that dcinventory.exe faulted etc. In looking at the scan logs, the devicescanlogger.log seems fine; all results are listed and the final statement states that it's posted the data to the server. Is there a need for a Domain Controller or not?
Hi guys! I'm new to this tool. I have a simple question about Desktop Central. Is it necessary to have a domain (+controller) to use this tool? Or is it perfectly possible to run it on a normal workgroup? Because at home I have 3 Desktops and 1 Laptop and it should be very handy to use the capabilities what Desktop Central has to offer...
SoM by IP
Is it possible to have future editions of Desktop Central to manage scopes by IP ranges? It would make it much easier to specifiy a range of IPs for to push out agent installation rather than dealing with computer names. macintel
How do I remove inactive users and computers
My system showes 499 users, while we have only c 215. there are old users no longer logging onto our domain - how do I remove them? I also have computers which are no longer part of our domain - do these come off when I do a domain scan? What about if I change the name of a computer form say Harry to Bob. Will this change show up in Desktop Central? thanks John

Computer doesnt continue

Suggestion: Individual Software Inventory Items should have an "Info" or "Comments" field for notes about the particular package. Update: Since applying sp11, I can now inventory (!), except on a few machines which are obviously not configured correctly. Question: Why is it that a product like iQNetScan (from iQuate) can do approximately the same thing as DesktopCentral without using any agents? It costs almost the same as DC, BTW. Pete Wason

Scan failed in all workstations
Hi, I have installed Dektop Central 5 in my small domain (1 server and 10 workstations). The server is Windows 2003 with AD (portuguese) and the workstations are Windows XP (english and portuguese). The Desktop Client engine was installed sucessfully, but when I try to scan the network, it says that the workstations are down. can't install agent because client is down, except it's not
I've spent the better part of my afternoon trying to get Desktop Central to work. It seems to install ok, but there's no way I can't get the agent to install. DC keeps telling me that my clients are down, but they're not!? I read about the firewall port exceptions, applied them and as this didn't work, I just turned off the firewall. But even after doing this, I still can't get the agent on my clients. As I'm really looking forward to testing DC, all help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in
desktop sharing failed after upgrade to 5
When I try to share a desktop I was able to access before the upgrade I now get a socket invalid error. It was on a machine I could access earler now I cant - no firewall on! John

I am trying to create a file folder configuration to copy a file from a network location to a pc as shown below. No matter what I try I get errors: \\ad1\Share$\connection.ini -> C:\PC Share\Connection.ini I am trying \\IPAddress\ for source and $compuername variable using UNC and full path \\$ComputerName\C$\PC Share\connection.ini. Patch management load on startup / login speed
I have some questions about the overhead in terms of start up time/log on time when I use scripting to carry out functions like patch management, and the general communication between the desktop support client and the server. I work in a school environment where start-up/login time & shut down time is an issue � it eats into short 30 min lesson periods. .exe file installation
When i setup a configuration for a .exe file to get installed on a machine. The file does not get install. I know that it say only .exe file can get installed if they can be installed silently. Well, I successfully silently installed it on another computer but it still wont work even though i put the switches into the arguements portion of the configuration. Phillip Anderson
Patches Fail To Download
Hey Guys, We are running Desktop Central 5 with the latest and greatest patches on our network and are having consistant trouble trying to retrieve some patches from the repository. For example: During last nights scan I had it draft me a copy up of all the patches needed through the network. I went in this morning and took out the ones I did not want to apply at this time. Then deployed the draft. It failed several times while downloading. So I have to go in there and see which ones are failing

Agent Installed but not registered
We have just installed a version 5 deployment on a new server we are suppling. Everything seems to be ok. Whilst trying to install onto the server (itself)The agent will push install, and manually install as well as uninstall, however the only recorded action is the uninstall. The folder is created ok, but in the scope of management etc, the server shows up as not installed. Any ideas why the two aren't talking to each other properly?
Manage Multiple OUs / Mulitple AdvAgentInstall GPOs
I am a Data Administrator within a larger domain, and would like to manage only the OU I am in control over. I have all the required permissions for this OU, and to create GPOs. However, another group of Admins have also installed Desktop Central in a different location, and the AdvAgentInstall GPO has already been created. How can I configure my Desktop Central installation to use a different GPO? We have a specific naming convention and would like to manually enter the name I would like to use.
Outside of Lan Connections
We have a few computers that sit outside of our network. We are looking to monitor these computers as well. Can this be done with desktop central? Are there modifications that be done to make the external clients look for an IP address to connect to and if so what port routing would need to be carried out so that all the features would work. We have access to the firewalls at both ends. We have been testing Desktop central and it works great for our internal usage, and we would really like to extend
