Sandbox"

Definition — What is a Sandbox?

Literally, a Sandbox is a play tool, used in beaches. Children play with sandboxes and experience various forms of sand structures. Today, the meaning of this word has evolved. In the context of the IT environment. The sandbox is an isolated testing environment that allows users to test something depending on their organization's goals before it is deployed on a live/production environment. Sandbox technology is most commonly used in security testing and software testing.

The sandbox technique is implemented in information security to evaluate potentially malicious software or files. Usually, cybersecurity professionals create a test environment to replicates the live environment, and the malicious code will be allowed in this environment. Its behavior will be analyzed to understand its functioning, without risking any harm to the host device or network.

In software testing, the idea is to test new codes or features or API's in ideal conditions without affecting the current environment. You can implement sandbox techniques in helpdesk environments too. The production server can be replicated as a Test Environment, which allows the user to perform functions like load testing, evaluating new features, testing upgrades, etc. The test environment can be destroyed and rebuild time and time again until the task is completed.
