What is Search Engine Optimization and what it does?

You may have heard about SEO, but you are not quite sure what it means and does. Or maybe you are not that sure how it helps you attain your goals.

Whenever you type a question in the browser and hit the enter button, this query will go to search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and so on. The search engine returns a number of results to the related query term.

If you have ever think of why some sites rank better than others, then you must know that it is because of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Research states that websites appear on the first page of Google search results receive the majority of clicks. The number of people clicking the websites in Google steadily decreased the further down the page they rank.

Here are some of the best strategies to boost your sites:

1. Keywords:

Understanding the search intent and identifying keywords is the most important task of them all, because the title, description, and URL of that page depend on, and contain the keywords.

2. Title:

The title should contain the keyword which that page focuses on. It should be unique, meaningful sentence, long enough (preferably 65 characters), and is not spammy.

3. URL Structure:

Easily understandable URL’s have two main advantages. They make your website easily navigable to users and simplifies managing your pages. The characteristics of a good URL are,

  • Few, easy words, no numbers
  • Not too long
  • Use specific keywords like home.html, contact.html, etc. instead of generic ones like page1.html, page2.html, etc.
4. Include meta tags to make it easier for search engines to determine what your content is about. Add quality backlinks and forward links to the content as it is more important for search engines like Google to rank your page better.

5. Page Speed should be under 2 seconds.

6. Keep updating your old blogs that are performing well on search engines.

7. Target Long-Tail Keywords:

Long-tail keywords are the key phrases that are more specific – and usually longer – than more commonly searched for keywords

The first benefit of the Longtail keyword is that it’s easy to rank and have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific.

Example:

Short Tail Keyword: Best Android Phones.

Long Tail Keyword: Best Android Phones Under $300.
